Thoughts of the day
4 days to UCL Final, and Ronny talked about Spain. Again.
Here some of the comments:
A Philosophical Appraisal Of Ronaldo
It seems very easy for the media to hype up anything to do with Ronaldo, and whether he stays or leaves manchester united. Whatever happens i think the following deserves some consideration:
1. Manchester United made Ronaldo what he is today, and not the other way around.
2. Ask most Manchester United fans, and I think there was an article in the red issue about this a while back, we all know Ronaldo will leave one day. It might be this summer or the next, but he will leave. Whether where he is going to makes him a better player, that is another question, and one that only Ronaldo himself can answer that. He wouldn’t be leaving for the money for under his proposed new contract he would be the highest paid player in the Premier League. But the consensus is that he will go one day. Rooney, Rio and a few others are Reds for life now, and I think fans know how to distinguish between those who might move on and those who will. Contrast ferdinands comments yesterday about being desperate to stay at united to those of Ronaldo’s. I think the fans know that the ineviteble will happen one day. so its not really headline grabbing stuff boys.
3. When was the last time a player left United and actually went on to achieve anything? I think the last player I really regret us selling was Jaap Stam. I’m not saying Ronaldo wont make a difference wherever he goes, he will. He will add outstanding quality to that team. But everything he wants to achieve as a footballer he can achieve with United and Portugal. But if he leaves, so be it. Whether he goes to real whilst Van Nistelrooy is there is another question. Fergie chose Ronaldo over Nistelrooy and that was a big reason for Ruud leaving United. Its not everyday you wanna go hang around the guy who made fun of your deceased parent.
4. There is a team ethos and continuity built into manchester united, this so called “character” that Sir Fergie keeps referring to, that Ronaldo will not find anywehre else.
5. Real Madrid have had more coaches than I’ve had hot dinners, and if Schuster fails to win the Champions league next year, he will be gone for sure.
6. Calderon promised real fans the signing of Robben, Fabregas and Kaka when he was re-elected. Time and again, Pedrag Mijatovic (who heads up transfer negotiations on the real side) has said signing Ronaldo would be impossible. Ronaldo himself admits that there is a difference between what you dream and what happens in reality. I dream of a Mclaren Mercedes, I drive a Ford. Is Calderon trying to start his promotional campaign for his next election campaign, by insisting that he has an interest in signing CR7? Well if Ronaldo joins Madrid in the same way as Fabregas and Kaka have, then I guess its fine by me.
7. If he leaves for Spain cos the English birds/food and weather are sh**e, well there really isn’t much we can do about that.
- Aleem Tharani (personally i had no problem with the English birds/food and weather when i was there)…
…Ronaldo moving on will not lead to United’s demise!
It needs to be said that loyalty no longer exists in the game of football. However, that can be said of life, too. Many of us will work for multiple companies during our work life, which is truly not about loyalty, but rather, different options, increased money, better prospects, geographical concerns, etc.
And remember, if Ronaldo was a two-bit player, than you can bet your top coin that United would be looking at other possibilites for his position. Even fans would be booing his every move if he were any less a player than he is. Ronaldo wanting to move (if that is the case) is perfectly acceptable. Bear in mind that the argument “United without Ronaldo are crap” or “Liverpool minus Torres and Gerrard would not be a top four side” are moot points. Do people think that if Ronaldo leaves they would only field ten players? In fact, they would go out and buy another top notch talent, and possibly two or three with the money Real Madrid would cough up. Would United really be less 41 goals in Ronaldo’s abscence? Or would it simply mean soemone else would take all the PK’s and free kicks and that other players, including Ronaldo’s replacement, would step up their contributions? Fact is, United have won trophies long before players like Rooney and Ronaldo were around. Players move on…and so do teams.
